1.
The data tree in the Insertable Objects pane uses folders and dimensions
to organize related data. Let's start by adding years and staff names.
In the Insertable Objects pane, click the plus sign (+) next to Years
to expand it.
2.
Adding data to the rows in the crosstab involves dragging an item from the Insertable
Objects pane to the Rows area.
Click Years and watch as it is dragged to the Rows area in the
crosstab.
3.
Now let's add columns to the crosstab. For our analysis, we must add all the
items in the staff name level.
Expand the Staff dimension and then the Penelope Tamrine dimension.
3.
Now let's add columns to the crosstab. For our analysis, we must add all the
items in the staff name level.
Click Else Mörike (right-click in the product), click Insert
all items (Staff name), and click As Columns.
4.
After you create the rows and columns in the crosstab, you add the measures
in which you are interested.
In the Insertable Objects pane, click the minus sign (-) next to Years
to collapse it. Expand Measures, click Quantity sold, and watch
as it is dragged to the Measure area in the crosstab.
5.
There are more columns than rows, so lets swap the rows and columns by using the swap
command.
Click the swap button
on the toolbar.
6.
You can change the number of items that appear in the crosstab. To help you
manage large sets of data, Analysis Studio shows you only the first few rows
or columns of data and summarizes the remaining values in the More subtotal.
Lets change the number of visible items for staff name from five to ten.
In the crosstab, click More and then click 10.
7. In Analysis Studio, you can nest data to see another level of detail. To see what quantity
of products was sold by each sales person, lets nest Staff name
within Product.
In the Insertable Objects pane, click Products and watch as it is dragged to the crosstab.
8. Because staff
name by products didnt provide the answers you were looking for, you
decide to examine how staff by sales territory are performing. You can replace
any data in any part of the crosstab by dragging in new data. Lets replace
Products with Sales Territory.
Expand the Sales Territory
folder, click the Sales Territory dimension, and watch as it is dragged
to replace Products.
9. Now that your
data is in the crosstab, lets sort the information. We are interested
in 2006, so lets sort on this column.
In the 2006 column
heading, click the area around the 2006 label to select the column.
(Tip: In Analysis Studio, when you click the label name, you drill
down.) Click the sort button
on the toolbar and then click Descending.
10. Analysis Studio
uses sets, which are collections of similar data from a single hierarchy. You
manipulate data by applying actions to sets. You can sort, filter and nest sets.
You can also save custom sets and view subtotals for your sets. Let's add a
subtotal for the set of sales people that are visible on the screen.
Under Rows, click Staff name to select the set, click the subtotals
button
on the toolbar,
and click Visible Items.
In this lesson, you learned
how to create a crosstab; how to swap, nest, replace, and sort data; and how
to change the number of visible items.
Click Welcome in the upper-right corner to return to the list of lessons,
or try one of the steps again.
